Midwifery Main Agreement
The Midwifery Agreements and Payment Schedule on the Ministry of Health website are the most recent agreements between the Midwives Association of BC (MABC) and the Ministry of Health.
The Midwifery Master Agreement and any subsidiary agreements are negotiated between the MABC and the Ministry of Health every three to five years. Consultations with the membership occur before and during negotiations and voting members are asked to ratify the agreement. The negotiation team seeks ongoing feedback and direction from the Board of Directors.
Midwifery Main Agreement 2022 - 2025
In 2023 the Midwives Association of British Columbia (MABC) achieved a significant milestone with the ratification (89% of eligible members voted with 99% in favour) of a pivotal agreement with the Ministry of Health for the Midwifery Main Agreement (MMA) 2022-2025. This precedent-setting agreement addressed the critical and immediate needs of midwives as well as providing a pathway for growth of the midwifery profession.
Key highlights of the agreement include a cumulative 12% increase across all fee codes in the Midwifery Payment Schedule effective April 1 of each year of the contract, $2.5 million in ongoing, renewable funding to support Indigenous midwifery, overhead payments to eligible midwives that support administrative costs, supplies, staffing, equipment, and more.
